How often should a young soccer player train?
How to think about quality, recovery, enjoyment and a sustainable weekly rhythm.
In brief: There is no single training schedule that suits every young player. Balance purposeful practice with school, club commitments, recovery, enjoyment and the player’s own wishes.
Look at the whole week
Include team training, matches, other sports, school and rest when thinking about additional coaching. More sessions are not automatically better if the player is tired or losing enjoyment.
Prefer a clear purpose
A focused session with a useful goal can be more valuable than adding practice without knowing what the player is working on.
Review how it feels
Ask the player how they feel before and after training. Adjust the plan if fatigue, pressure or competing commitments begin to outweigh the benefits.
Every player is different. If you would like help choosing a coaching format, use the finder or send a short enquiry.
